Sage cleaning and descaling reminders, by model
A Barista Express CLEAN ME light calls for cleaning, not descaling. The Bambino has a combined clean and descale alert, while the Bambino Plus distinguishes the cycles. The manual comparisons below explain which reminder belongs to which job.
Sage's model-specific instruction manuals provide the reminder meanings and care requirements below. Checked on 16 September 2026. We have not used or tested any of the equipment on this site.
Match the reminder to the machine
These summaries cover the Barista Express SES875 UK UG1 F22, Bambino SES450 UK UG1 G21 and the English section of Bambino Plus SES500 EU UG8 K25. The Plus document is the EU edition linked from Sage's GB product page (checked 16 September 2026), not a UK-labelled manual. Check that the model and revision apply to your machine before using a row.

The cleaning disc and tablet routines described for the Express and Plus should not be copied into the Bambino's combined cycle. Use the full procedure for your own model, including its warnings, rather than treating this reminder table as operating instructions.
The intervals these editions actually give
Sage's hardness “levels” below are the labels in these manuals. They are not a universal water-hardness scale or a conversion from your supplier's figures. If you cannot match your water to the manual's level, ask Sage rather than choose a calendar interval by guesswork. Care between reminders
The manuals also describe routine care that is not tied to a cleaning-cycle light. The notes here identify the jobs and their stated timing, without reproducing steam controls, dismantling or rinse sequences.

These passages do not justify a shared weekly soak, monthly backflush or annual parts-replacement timetable. This reference does not cover repairs; take work involving machine disassembly or electrical components to a qualified repairer.
Before a Barista Express descale
The UK UG1 F22 guide's descale and rinse text says “repeat steps 4-6”, even though step 6 refers back to itself. It also warns against completely emptying the tank during descaling while the numbered procedure says to empty the solution. Sage UK guide, p. 16, checked 16 September 2026.
Ask Sage to confirm the applicable sequence before proceeding. We have not resolved that wording and do not supply a corrected sequence. The existing model-specific rinse warning remains relevant.
For your care record, note the model, manual revision, reminder shown and work completed. If the controls or wording differ from the relevant row, stop there and confirm the right guide with Sage. A similar model name is not enough to choose its procedure.
